Review & Facebook Giveaway: Vain by Fisher Amelie

Goodreads Summary
If you’re looking for a story about a good, humble girl, who’s been hurt by someone she thought she could trust, only to find out she’s not as vulnerable as she thought she was and discovers an empowering side of herself that falls in love with the guy who helps her find that self, blah, blah, blah...then you’re gonna’ hate my story.

Because mine is not the story you read every time you bend back the cover of the latest trend novel. It’s not the “I can do anything, now that I’ve found you/I’m misunderstood but one day you’ll find me irresistible because of it” tale. Why? Because, if I was being honest with you, I’m a complete witch. There’s nothing redeeming about me. I’m a friend using, drug abusing, sex addict from Los Angeles. I’m every girlfriend’s worst nightmare and every boy’s fantasy.

I’m Sophie Price...And this is the story about how I went from the world’s most envied girl to the girl no one wanted around and why I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.

“Hold me tighter,” I whispered against his teeth. He clutched me closer yet not tight enough. “More,” I demanded.
He drew me firmer against him and I felt every ridge of his body.
“Is that close enough?” he laughed into my throat.
“Perfect,” I told him.

My Thoughts
To say social media plays a huge role in our lives today is an understatement. Had it not been for the blogs and readers flooding Facebook, Twitter and Goodreads about this book, I might never have come across it. The cover alone would have made me pass it up as it is VERY misleading! (looks like a paranormal novel but it is not!). I knew any book that popped up as much as this one did, it had to be good. But I was wrong. It isn't just good, it is one of the best books I have ever read!

I have to admit, when I first read the summary I was left scratching my head. How could a book about a self centered witch be that good? Well, I am here to tell you that little blurb does not do this book justice. It is so much more than that. This book is about the journey of self discovery for a girl who so many envy but none truly know. And through Sophie's story, you the reader, will walk away with a whole new perspective on life yourself.

When you first start reading, you are immediately thrust into the world that an unlimited cash flow can provide. Drugs, sex, alcohol...these kids know no boundaries, it is a world most would kill for. But upon a closer look, you will quickly see it is not all unicorns and rainbows for Sophie. Everyone wants a piece of her but no one truly cares about her. And none of them are worse than her parents. All they care about is what the image of their pretend happy family can do for her father's company. In reality, they could care less what Sophie does. As long as she keeps up appearances she will be rewarded with a hefty allowance. But it is when her actions threaten to put a crack in the facade, that her father makes a decision that will forever change Sophie's life.

She is being sent to Africa to work at an orphanage for 6 months!

It is at this point that the book truly became something more for me. I never really disliked Sophie as a person, even when she was in the "my shit don't stink" mode. I think that is because the author allowed us to see very early on that it was all a front. But it is the journey she takes to Africa and the way she handled herself there that made me love her. She faces all the challenges presented to her in an admiral fashion. She quickly falls in love with the children there and begins to understand true happiness through their eyes.

“And what is there to be joyful about?"

"Life, Sophie. They still live. They breathe, they love each other, they find joy in the world around them for no other reason than because they are children. They are resilient. They will always rise above. Always. It is a curious facet of the innocent young.”

And of course no story is complete without a boy. It is in Africa that Sophie meets Ian. He takes her breath away from the moment she lays eyes on him. But he is not so impressed with her. He believes he has Sophie all figured out and doesn't think she will last. But she quickly grows on him and he sees her in a different light. It was sweet to read how their relationship blossomed. From the stolen kisses, to the innocent touches, and not so unnoticed staring. It was all very PG 13 and I think it was oh so romantic!!

“You are so gosh damn beautiful in here," he said, tapping my chest, "that what's here," he spoke, running the side of his hand down my face, "is magnified tenfold and that is a sight to be hold.”

I could seriously go on and on about this book. But I think I will end my review here. I hope that you will add this book to your TBR list. I promise you will not regret it!!!
