Alyssa Boyd had big plans. Big plans that included getting the hell out of the little town she’d grown up in with her two best friends. When she decided it was time to let one of them know her true feelings for him; a change of plans resulted in a tragic turn of events. Now, Alyssa is left alone to find her way out of the darkness that an untimely death has left in its wake.

Jesse Vaughn was never good at letting people in. He’d learned a long time ago that it’s easier that way because people leave, or, unfortunately, die. The one person he wanted to let in doesn’t want him anymore. The only problem is he can’t stop thinking about her. Jesse returns to the childhood home he left behind with one goal in mind… to convince her that they should be together.

When Jesse finds Alyssa she’s not the same girl he left behind. She’s wild, reckless and hell-bent on not giving Jesse a second chance. Lucky for Jesse, his stubborn streak has always been a mile-wide and he’s not about to give up on her.

When your life has been shattered can you really pick up all the pieces and move on?

Alyssa, Jesse and Garrett are the best of friends. They have been inseperable since the day the boys rode up on their 4 wheelers and asked her to go for a ride. That was in the 7th grade. Now the boys have just graduated from high school and Alyssa is getting ready to start her senior year. But in this trio, the dynimacs are about to change. You see, Alyssa has realized she feels a little more than friendly for one of them. And just as she finally decides to confess her feelings, tradegy strikes

Alyssa is left to pick up the pieces of losing the two people she cared about most. She blames herself for the events of that night. And the hurt is still as fresh as it was 9 months ago. All she wants to do is numb the pain. Her mom thinks she should do that with a prescription bottle. And Alyssa hopes to find it in the bottom of a liquor bottle. As Alyssa begins to spiral even further out of control, the one that holds her heart returns. Will Jesse coming back be the thing that finally pushes Alyssa over edge or pull her back from the ledge?

Jesse has returned to his hometown with one goal in mind. Finally confessing his feeling to Alyssa. He should have done it a long time ago and he hopes it is not too late. But the girl he comes home to is not the same one he left 9 months earlier. She is so angry and hurt that he left her when she needed him the most. Can he convince her that he regrets his decision to leave? That he wants a future with her?

I loved this book. It was heartbreakingly beautiful. I feel in love with Jesse. He was so sincere and sweet in his feelings for Alyssa. My heart broke for her as she tries to hold on to the anger she feels for Jesse leaving and the temptation to finally have what she always wanted with him. I like how we got to experience alternately POV's. and the flashbacks to the past really added a special touch to the story. I believe it gave us a better understanding of the characters and the emotions they were feeling.

While the storyline is one that has been done many times over, I believe Ms. Lee has added her her own special touch to Alyssa and Jesse's story. Definitely worth the read!

When I'm not writing or playing the part of wife and mother, you can find me dancing back-up for Beyonce, singing back-up for Miranda, or sunning myself on the beach with a drink in hand. Here's the thing about being born and raised in a small town—you have a very vivid imagination! Now, I channel it all to create stories where the girl always ends up with the right guy, first kisses are magical, and a happy ending is just that!
