Can a guilty conscience keep wounds from healing?

Fine arts major, Candace Parker, grew up with a mother who thinks image is everything, and her daughter’s perfection will never be good enough. About to graduate college and pursue her dreams of becoming a professional ballerina, Candace decides it’s time to let go and have a little fun. But fun is short-lived when a brutal attack leaves her completely shattered.

The memories that consume and torment Candace are starting to destroy her when she meets Ryan Campbell, a successful bar owner. He feels instantly connected and tries to show her that hope is worth fighting for. But is Ryan harboring his own demons? As walls slowly begin to chip away, the secrets that are held within start to become painful burdens.

At what point do secrets become lies?

I just finished reading Fading and I have to say, I am blown away. The writing is amazing and the story in one that grabs hold of you from the first sentence and doesn't let go until the last. Even then, you will find yourself still wanting more. Not because the book ends on a cliffhanger (it doesn't), but because the characters will have become so real for you, that you don't want to let them go. Lucky for us the author will be giving us more with Jase and Ryan's books!

Candace suffers through the unthinkable. Being brutally attacked has left her a shell of her former self. She struggles daily with nightmares, anxiety, and basically just living a normal life again. The one and only person she has that she truly feels safe with is Jase. He is her rock when she needs him the most. This book takes you along for the ride that is Candace's recovery from the unimaginable. There are quite a few bumps along the way to her becoming "normal" (if there is really even such a thing), but she has a strong support system in the friends that surround her.

The think I absolutely LOVED most about this book is Candace's recovery from her attack was not rushed. So many books has something like the incident with Candace occur and two chapters later it was like nothing ever happened. This author lets you go through all the stages with Candace that I believe someone typically would in this situation. It made the story and characters so real for me.

And I loved the relationship between Candace and Ryan. Again, the author let the connection between these two build naturally. There was no rushing them together. Ryan came into Candace's life at a point where she was not ready for anything but friendship and he was willing to give her only that. The progression of their friendship into something more, again, felt natural and most of all, believable.

USA Today bestselling author and International Amazon bestselling author, E.K. Blair takes her readers on an emotional roller coaster with her FADING series. A former first grade teacher with an imagination that runs wild. Daydreaming and zoning out is how she was often found in high school. Blair tends to drift towards everything dark and moody. Give her a character and she will take pleasure in breaking them down, digging into their core to find what lies underneath.

Aside from writing, E.K. Blair finds pleasure in music, drinking her Starbucks in peace, and spending time with her friends. She's a thinker, an artist, a wife, a mom, and everything in between.
