This was one of those really sweet stories
about a boy and a girl who become best friends at school and as they become
teenagers, fall in love.
I love romance stories like this. Asher and Charlie have this intense, sweet
love for each other. They have crossed
the bridge of adolescence together and every ‘first’ has been shared with each
other.
I love how Asher is so protective of his
girl, don’t we all want a guy in our lives who makes us feel safe and protected? These two finish high school together and
head off to college, which brings a whole new environment to their relationship
but I think they cope well.
When Charlie gets some news that will
forever change their lives Asher does a complete 360 and walks away. I was completely surprised that he reacted
that way, in that he didn’t just leave it a day to cool off and think about it
but it was a lot longer. I feel like it
was so out of character for the boys we had come to know and love.
Then we skip 13 years ahead. Another thing that I found quite odd, that is
a long time leap. Charlie is now living
in New York and making a new life for herself.
We meet another character in this story
called David who is treated so badly by Charlie, I was embarrassed and ashamed
on her behalf. Charlie receives a call that brings her back to her home town
which in turn brings her near Asher again.
Asher is back living in Willow Falls and
trying to make a life for himself. He
has never stopped loving Charlie and when a chance meeting brings them back
together he is determined to hold on to her forever.
This is a sweet story about second chance
love. It was beautiful until ‘that’
moment in college and then it felt like it just veered away from what I thought
I knew and loved about Asher & Charlie’s relationship/friendship. It had a lovely ending but I was left feeling
a bit confused and wanting to know more about those 13 years we all missed.
I give this 3.5 stars
