Review: Becoming Calder and Finding Eden by Mia Sheridan

Becoming Calder by Mia Sheridan
Release Date: October 5th 2014

There is a place in modern day America with no electricity, no plumbing, and no modern conveniences. In this place, there is no room for dreams, no space for self-expression, and no tolerance for ambition.

In this place, there is a boy with the body of a god and the heart of a warrior. He is strong and faithful and serves his family honorably. But he dares to dream of more.

In this place, there is a girl with the face of an angel and a heart full of courage. To her family, she is the vision of obedient perfection. But she dares to want that which she has been told can never be hers.

Becoming Calder is the story of good versus evil, fear versus bravery, and the truth that the light of love has always found its way into even the darkest of places . . . From the beginning of time, to the end of the world.

THIS IS THE FIRST PART IN A TWO-PART SIGN OF LOVE SERIES INSPIRED BY AQUARIUS. THE SECOND PART, FINDING EDEN, WILL RELEASE SIMULTANEOUSLY. New Adult Contemporary Romance: Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18

When you are about to delve into a new release by Mia you can't just say you are 'reading .'  That is a complete disservice to what happens when you open this book.  You experience this story, not just read the words.  Mia has a talent for making you feel like you are there in the moment with these characters, seeing and experiencing everything they are.  She puts you, the reader, right in there, up close and personal with the story.

Calder lives at Acadia with his parents and sister.  He has been there as long as he can remember, so his whole life.  Hector is the  prophet 'father' of Acadia, he is greatly admired and loved by everyone.  When Calder is about 10 years old a young girl arrives to live in Hector's home.  Her name is Eden and she is known as the princess.  Her destiny has been chosen by the gods and she will see it through with Hector's guidance, leading them all in an eternal life together.
Eden is a beautiful young girl and as the years pass she develops into an even more beautiful young woman.  Other men in Acadia notice her and none more so than Calder.  Calder is a 'worker' and cannot interact with Eden but admires her from afar.  Eden notices him too, he has a grown man's physique after working in the fields for years and he is a stunningly handsome young man, pretty almost.

"I wanted to talk to him all day long, to hear that deep, throaty laughter that washed over my skin and made me shiver.  His voice sounded like warm spring rain falling on the gravel road ' - Eden

These two somehow form a 'stolen moments' friendship that will eventually  take them across the bridge to adulthood.  Calder teaches Eden how to see the world through his eyes.  He has huge dreams for his future and he plans to make them come true.  Calder is in awe of Eden's strength and beauty, his friendship with her has enriched his life more than she knows.  More importantly, these two have discovered the true meaning of deep to your soul love.

"Because it's my heart that makes me want to deny my so called destiny.  It's my heart that wants you to be my destiny " - Eden

As the time nears closer to the prophets foretelling, Calder begins to start doubting what he has been brought up to believe his whole life, what if it is wrong and there is something more in the 'outside' world?   This is a spellbinding and at times absolutely gripping story about the emergence of a small boy into a young man.  Should you follow the path that you believe you are destined for or is there an undiscovered pathway that will lead you to your own personal utopia?
Mia writes such beautiful, flawless words that will leave you feeling breathless and so aware of your own heartbeat pounding in your chest.  You get all those wonderful book feels that re-confirm why you love to read, Mia is an author who completely solidifies my passion for reading.

I freaking loved this 5+ star story :)

"There was no breath in my lungs left to call his name, to whisper the words I needed him to know in the end - that I loved him, that I'd always love him, that he was my strength and my weakness, my endless joy, and my greatest sorrow" - Eden

It's hard to say much about this story without giving away the plot ending to Becoming Calder.  I guess this is Eden's story.  Where did she come from and how did she end up in Acadia, destined to marry the prophet Hector?  Somewhere in the outside world is there a family that loved her and grieved her disappearance?
You may wonder why there are two books that make up this whole story but it is necessary, they are both two separate journey's that were meant to be told this way. This is a continuation of the beautiful epic story of Eden and Calder.  Everything you feel after reading Becoming Calder will come flooding back to you ten-fold as you soak in this story. This book left me in tears so much but they were not always sorrowful tears, there was plenty of joyful crying too.

This too is a beautiful  5 star read :)

Pending soon upon release 10-5-14!
